Disable Java in Web Browser : An Internet Security Risk :
Security threats are becoming more and more common as vulnerabilities are found in various software used on a computer system. One of the most common is Java. Hackers have found that Java is a prime target because of all the security holes that exist.
Mozilla and Apple have updated versions of their web browsers that have disabled Java by default. If a user has not updated their browser, then they may want to disable Java to prevent any issues. There are many ways for a user to disable Java on their system. The method to use will depend on the browser in use on their system.
1) Firefox – Disable Java
Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers in use today. Java can be turned off by clicking on the drop down selection for “Add-ons” from the Tools drop down menu. Click on the option for “Plugins” and scroll to the selection for Java. Select the “Disable” option to turn off Java. Close and then reopen the browser to complete the process.
2) Disable Java in IE
Internet Explorer is the default browser for most Windows-based computers. Users will need to go into the Java Control Panel on their system to disable the software. However, there is an option in the Tools menu for managing browser add-ons. Find Java in the list of installed add-ons and select the option for “Disable.” One thing to keep in mind is that there may be more than one entry for Java.
3) Turn off Java in Chrome
Users with the Chrome web browser will need to type “about:plugins” in the address bar. This displays the plug-in settings for the browser. Scroll down to the listing for Java and select the option on the right for “Disable.” Closing and then opening the browser is needed for the change to take effect.
Disabling Java in the Safari browser can be done by selecting “Security” from the Preferences menu in the browser. Click “Enable Java” to deselect and then close the window.
